Start walking. Use music to keep you motivated. I lost three kilos by walking alone. Eat an apple or something fibrous before exercising. It fuels your muscles and keeps you energetic. Drinking green tea is great for weight-loss. Get eight full hours of sleep on days when you exercise. It also aids weight-loss.

Eat smart: You have to watch what you eat. Think more about the nutrient value of whatever you put into your mouth. Nuts are a great snack. Don’t blindly eat brown bread. It’s coloured white bread most of the time. Try multi-grain. Eat rolled oats instead of instant oats-they’re less processed and contain less sugar.

Progress: I started focusing on running along with the crosstrainer and cycling in the gym. The crosstrainer is an elliptical trainer. According to me, it helps burn more calories than running on a treadmill. At first, I couldn’t run for five minutes. But I kept at it, till I took part in the Delhi Marathon and ran for 6.7km. It spurred me to take on the 10km run in Gurgaon last December. My fitness levels have kept my diabetes at an all time low and I feel like a changed man!
